Michelle Barker lives and writes in the Okanagan region of B.C., with her husband, four children and two dogs. She writes poetry, fiction, and non-fiction, and her work has been published in literary reviews around the world. Her first novel, a young adult fantasy called The Beggar King, will be published in 2013 by Thistledown Press. She is an MFA student in creative writing at UBC's optional-residency program. She also works as an editor and workshop leader.

During the summer of 2007 Michelle visited Haida Gwaii with her sister-in-law. They spent one blessed week hiking and boating, taking a thousand photographs of trees and absorbing every moment that those magical islands gave them. The poems in this chapbook were inspired by that journey.
